Make all your wedding dreams come true at the Peter Shields Inn and The Mainstay Inn. From ceremony to reception to accommodations for you and your guests, our professional and attentive staff will take care of your every need.

The Peter Shields Inn specializes in both casual and elegant ocean front Cape May weddings, parties, receptions and special dinners.  We cater to your needs and welcome your ideas to make your special occasion everything you dreamed it would be.

Our events generally include one and a half hours of passed hors d'oeuvres, followed by a sit-down station or buffet brunch, lunch or dinner.  Each of our events differ, so we will match our times and food with your needs allowing for photos and any other of your planned activities.

The Peter Shields Inn has five beautiful and romantic dining rooms, most with fireplaces and an enclosed outdoor porch to dine and view the Atlantic Ocean.  We can accommodate up to 100 people depending on the type of reception you desire.

There is a site fee for weddings and events at Peter Shields Inn depending on the time of the event and day of the week.  There is a minimum food service charge as outlined below based on the day of the week and time of day for the event.  For smaller parties, arrangements can be made.  We have nine guest rooms to accommodate your guests and we are associated with the Mainstay Inn on Columbia Avenue.  We add to the total a 22% gratuity and 7% NJ state sales tax. 

The Peter Shields Inn does not have a liquor license, but you are welcome to bring in your own beverages and bar service. We also are available to sell wines from our own Cape May Winery.  We will be happy to assist you in finding all the services as well, such as florists, photographers, bakeries and musicians to ensure you the best occasions.

The integrity of the food at The Peter Shields Inn is wonderful and you won't be disappointed.  We will work out a menu to suit your wants and needs.

Special Terms and Conditions

Children - Children are welcome, but children over the age of 5 will be charged at the full rate.

Alcoholic Beverages - Since the Peter Shields does not have a liquor license, you must provide your own spirits.  New Jersey State Law allows us to serve beer, wine or champagne; no other alcoholic beverages are welcome.  We will be happy to assist you wit our local suppliers and a server.

Miscellaneous - Wedding Cake, Floral Arrangements, Invitations, Photographer, etc. to be provided by the wedding party.

Music and Entertainment - Music, while provided by the wedding party, is of special consideration at the Inn.  In keeping with the elegance and décor of the Inn, no live bands in excess of three pieces or large amplified equipment are permitted.  The Inn is fortunate to house a Yamaha Digital Baby Grand Piano and we welcome you to use this instrument at any time during your event.

Menu - Our Chef will tailor a unique and creative menu for each wedding party's specific needs.  Menu selection will begin six months prior to the date of the event.  Each menu item will be selected by the wedding party so that specific tastes and desires can be granted.

Fines and Losses - The Inn is not responsible for fines incurred due to parking violations or noise ordinance violations.  The management and staff are also not responsible for loss or damages of personal property of the wedding part, their guests or outside vendors.
